... My Projects

... I am trying to become more like Martha and learn new things! So since my mom has the summer's off I decided I would enlist her help in my crazy ideas! Nolan & I have plans to switch Sweet Pea to a "Big Girl" bed in the next 3-4 months. I started pricing out bedding and the little cute toddler beds and I was in shock! So having a tight budget I started looking at making my own bedding. I found the cutest fabric at Hobby Lobby, but the price wasn't so cute! At $12.99 a yd I was better off just buying something from Target. So I waited for a 40% off coupon and ending up paying $26.00 for 3 yards of fabric! My mom then helped me quilt it and bind it. It was a learning experience and I am so ready to do it again!

Here it is in all it's imperfect glory...

...I still didn't have a solution for a headboard though! I then remembered that when my parents moved into their house (it's really old family house and used to be the town Post office) there was an old metal headboard & footboard!! My parents for some reason didn't throw it away with all the other junk! I was excited! It was exactly what I wanted and fit perfectly into Sweet Pea's room decor! So then the question was do I re-finish it or do I leave it as is?

... I decided to strip the old paint off. I didn't know if it had lead in it, which it most likely did. I am still not finished with it, but I am so excited to see the progress!!

Now onto crafting something else...

PS. My mom made a quilt and wants to "name" her quilt. She is giving away a prize for the winner! So go vote!

Every family needs a "Martha" Stewart, that's why we love you. Congratulations on your quilt. I'm sure Sweet Pea will dream sweet dreams under those covers.

Yeah, I hear that our old house is pretty scuzzed looking now (nice, since it's right across from the church--that was one of the reasons we always tried to have it look good--that and we all had a work ethic!!)
And I hear that Sister Fieldsted won't go visiting teaching there any more because of the graphic nude Adam and Eve mural that's painted on the front room wall--apparently anatomically correct, too!
I miss my mom living there, too because now we never visit. But at least I can somewhat live the Kirtland life through the Whipple girls' blogs!

Hmmm...just wondering if my doing one like that for Mister Spencer would make the two months left go by faster. I seriously think it is so cute! Now you've got my mind a whirlin'.

I love your imperfect quilt, although it doesn't look imperfect to me at all.

Megan sometime you are going to have to come with me to Hobby Lobby and

1) Help me pick out neat material

2) Help me pick out a neat project to make with it and

3) Teach me how to use my sewing machine that Colleen bought me 2 Christmases ago and it has never been out of the box.

Seriously never even opened it. Once I was making a cushion for the bench in our entry way and I took the material and hot glued it around the cushion because I didn't know how to work the sewing machine!
